Legend of Law and Policy Types

S1Research
These policies create research, development, demonstration, and deployment programs, grants, goals, and institutions.
S2Loans and Bonds
These policies include government loans, principal and loan guarantees, and related measures for various energy-related activities and capital investments.
S3Public Entity Special Rights, Requirements, and Exemptions
These policies single out the rights, obligations, and privileges that apply only to governmental and quasi-public entities like irrigation districts, investor-owned regulated utilities, and municipally-owned utilities.
S4Private Entity Special Rights, Requirements, and Exemptions
These policies establish rights, obligations, and privileges that apply to any person or entity in the jurisdiction. Generally, public entities are subject to these requirements as well.
S5General Policy Plans
These policies establish broad, strategic, and often aspirational goals and objectives.
S6Incentives and Assistance
This policy category encompasses grant programs, payments, rebates, tax exemptions and other benefits, assistance programs, partnerships, and equipment programs available to individuals, businesses, and governments.
S7Education
These policies include public outreach, training, and educational programs.
S8Non Resource Specific Policies (NRSPs)
NRSPs are local (i.e. county and municipal) policies for which there is no presumed energy-related objective. Commonly, these are zoning and siting regulations that apply to a wide breadth of structures and do not mention renewable energy or energy efficiency.
